Since WCS originated in the USA, many French-speaking teachers continue to use English terms to describe dance movements and concepts. Dance is based on two types of steps: pas (step) and triple pas (triple step). A step corresponds to one weight transfer per pulse, while a triple step is faster, with three weight transfers per two pulses. All WCS movements combine steps and triple steps, to create a myriad of movements (patterns) in six, eight or more beats. WCS involves a great deal of improvisation, and you really have to approach the dance as a series of lego blocks that partners combine according to their interpretation of the music.
