CODE OF CONDUCT

RESPECT FOR OTHERS

With a view to providing you with the safest possible space, the Quebec City WCS Dancers’ Association ensures that its values of respect, benevolence and tolerance are respected in all its events. As such, everyone attending the event agrees to respect these same values. We remind you that our events are open to everyone, regardless of gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, accessibility limitations/needs, physical appearance, religious beliefs, and so on. Therefore, no violence, misconduct or inappropriate comments of any kind (misogynistic, homophobic, sexist, transphobic, racist or derogatory) will be tolerated from our organization or our collaborators. At no time during the event will any inappropriate behavior or comments be permitted that are intended, among other things, to discriminate against or intimidate anyone present at the event (students, volunteers, teachers, staff, etc.).

To this end, we rely on your full cooperation and ask you to promptly report any behavior that seems inappropriate. If you feel feel uncomfortable about a particular situation, please speak quickly to a member of the organization who is available to listen.

An the event that a person behaving inappropriately refuses to cooperate in rectifying the situation, we reserve the right to take the necessary measures to make the event user-friendly and safe for everyone, including the possibility of permanent dismissal from the event, without any form of compensation.

RESPECT FOR THE VENUE AND THE EVENT

Everyone attending the event agrees to respect the premises (including furniture) and the people working there.

Our volunteers are there for you at all times to ensure that the event runs smoothly for everyone. Please respect them and their work.

Anyone attending the event also agrees to abide by the event’s rules and regulations:

  • Smoking (including electronic cigarettes) is prohibited inside the premises.
  • If you bring or consume drinks and/or food, please respect the cleanliness of the premises and be sure to pick up, clean up or notify us of any damage.

Any breach or non-compliance with these rules may result in fines and additional costs which will not be borne by the organizers and will be billed to the offending parties.

We remind you that it is your responsibility to look after your personal property as well as the property of others, and that under no circumstances can the event be held responsible for theft, loss or depreciation of property.

Finally, we ask you to keep in mind that we are not alone in the premises, and that several guests not participating in the dance event may also have to share the same premises as us. Please watch out for noise in common areas and keep them clean after your visit. Please be respectful of other guests.

ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION POLICY

We remind you that you are responsible for your alcohol consumption at all times. Please remain aware of your drinking limits. We also encourage you not to drink and drive. We’ll be happy to help you find a ride if you need one.

DISCHARGE IN THE EVENT OF INJURY

We would like to remind you that dancing is a physical activity that can involve various risks for yourself and others. Good physical condition and respect for safety rules are essential. We ask you to be aware that dancing can involve risks of injury, and that it is your responsibility not to dance/stop dancing in the event of any discomfort.

We would also like to remind you that it is your responsibility to look after your own safety, and that we share responsibility for the safety of others. We therefore ask you to take the necessary precautions during classes, workshops or any other activity organized as part of the event.

We count on you to respect the safety rules set up by the event, the rules that apply to the practice of social dance, the instructions of the teachers and/or leaders as well as the safety instructions of the venues hosting the event, in order to ensure a safe activity for yourself and others. We encourage you to inform a supervisor if you have any physical difficulties, fears about working on a proposed movement and/or reluctance.

To the extent permitted by applicable legal provisions, the organizers and their volunteer members, partners and guest teachers are released from all liability in the event of accidents of any kind whatsoever or damage without any exceptions or reservations. No recourse will be accepted against members of the organizing team, their volunteers or guest teachers.

ETHICS ON THE DANCE FLOOR, DURING PARTIES AND WORKSHOPS

Whether you’re a new dancer or a regular on the dance floor, it’s always a good idea to keep a few principles of dance etiquette in mind:

  • We have the right to refuse a dance at any time.
  • It’s a good idea to bring a change of clothes for workshops and/or evenings, for our own comfort and that of our partners.
  • It’s a good idea to focus on our learning in the workshops and use the evenings for socializing instead (and not vice versa).
  • Our teachers are there to support you in your dancing. Please respect their work and trust their decisions and approach.
  • Make sure you don’t hurt your colleagues or partner. Be aware of your surroundings when dancing or before attempting anything.

Please note that certain points in the terms of sale and code of conduct have been directly or indirectly inspired by the non-profit organization “ Les Évènements Swing Renaissance”.

We hope you enjoy the event!
