Code of Ethics
L’Association des danseurs de WCS de Québec: Code of Ethics
The Association des danseurs de WCS de Québec (Asso) strives to apply the values of respect, benevolence and inclusion in its activities and events.
WE ARE COMMITTED TO :
★ To provide a safe and fun environment where everyone can learn, meet new people and express their creativity;
★ Provide a listening space and help remedy problem situations as needed;
WE DO NOT TOLERATE :
★ No form of harassment or violence, including sexual violence;
★ No form of discrimination.
We invite you to familiarize yourself with the principles of civility to promote everyone’s well-being and mutual enjoyment while dancing in our Dancer’s Guide.
We ask you to respect the values described below and to report any misconduct, inappropriate comments or behavior to a member of the Wellness Committee.
RESPECT FOR OTHERS
Inclusion and tolerance
Our activities and events are open to all, regardless of gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, accessibility limitations/needs, physical appearance, religious beliefs, and so on. As a result, no violence, misconduct or inappropriate comments of any kind (misogynistic, homophobic, sexist, transphobic, racist or derogatory) will be tolerated from our organization, collaborators or event participants. During our activities, no inappropriate behavior or remarks intended, among other things, to discriminate against or intimidate any person present at the event (participants, volunteers, teachers, collaborators, other customers of the venue, etc.) will be admitted.
Safety: a shared responsibility
Dancing is a physical activity that can lead to various risks of injury to yourself or others. It is your responsibility to take the necessary precautions to ensure your safety, that of your partner, as well as that of other dancers around you, and not to dance or to stop dancing in the event that you fear for your safety or that of your partner.
Respect for other people’s bodies
WCS is a dance that requires proximity and physical contact between partners. However, permission to touch your partner is limited to the duration of the dance and restricted to the following connection points: hands, arms, shoulders, back, hips and, on a few occasions, knees.
If you’re uncomfortable with a gesture your partner makes during the dance, it’s your responsibility to inform him or her.
If your partner expresses discomfort with a movement you initiate or a point of contact you employ, it is your responsibility to adapt your dance to respect the limits expressed.
Alcohol and drug use
We remind you that you are responsible for your consumption of alcohol and drugs at all times. Please remain aware of your limits and consume in moderation. We also encourage you not to drink and drive.
RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Everyone attending our activities and events undertakes to respect the premises in which they take place. This includes respect for the following rules and principles:
- Smoking (including electronic cigarettes) is prohibited inside the premises.
- If you bring or consume drinks and/or food, you are required to respect the cleanliness of the premises and make sure to pick up, clean up or notify us of any damage.
- To preserve the quality of the dance floors, dancers are required to wear clean shoes that have not been worn outdoors.
